Give the space a purpose
Think about gathering, walking, relaxing and planting. Identify the areas you use now and the areas you avoid, and explain what you would like to change.
Observe the site
Photograph slopes, existing paths, gates and nearby structures. Note where sun, shade or standing water affects how you use the yard. Share observations rather than assumed solutions.
Consider the care you want
Explain how much ongoing care fits your routine. Use that conversation to guide planting and material choices, without assuming any yard or surface will be maintenance-free.
Discuss the whole picture
Ask how the proposed area will connect to the rest of the yard. Bring up drainage, grading or irrigation concerns during project review so any supporting work can be considered in the scope.
